DEATHS IN THE ARMY
DEPENDANTS’ POSITION It was stated officially in Christchurch that in the event of the death of a soldier in the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force abroad, allotments and allowances will be continued to his dependants for three months from the date on which official notification of the casualty is first sent to the persons to whom allotments and allowances are being issued. Immediately the casualty is known Base Records will advise the soldier's dependant entitled to a war pension to malm a claim on the War Pensions Board. At the same time it will advise the War Pensions Board that such a claim is to be expected. No payment is yet authorised beyond three months, and claimants are expected to arrange their claims for a pension within that period. The amount of pension to be paid will be determined by the board after the claimant’s case has been heard.
