DOMINION PRAISED
SOCIAL LEGISLATION BRITISH LABOUR LEADER (Per Press Association.) TIMARU, this day. A civic reception was accorded Mr. William Holmes, the veteran representative of the British Labour movement on his arrival at Timaru yesterday by the Mayor, Mr. W. G. Tweedy. The Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, was associated with the Mayor in the welcome. Mr. Holmes paid a tribute to New Zealand for the lead it had given in social legislation and said that older countries were still learning something from the Dominion. He outlined the conditions in England which were due to the war and praised the work of the trade union . movement in attaining maximum production in the war effort.
