BOROUGH BATTALION HOME GUARD PARADES PROMOTIONS NOTED Routine orders for the week, issued b v headquarters of the Gisborne Borough Battalion of the Home Guard, include a notification of promotions in the Engineers and Transport companies, as under: Engineers.— R. C. Branch to be platoon commander; A. Sheen lo be lance corporal. Transport.—V. J. Butler, F. R. A. lie; and F. H. Ardern to be platoon commanders; W. R. Torrie to be comoanv sergeant-major: W. R. Tyerman, T. \V. N. Gedye, J. D. Martin and D. A. Dale to be sergeants. Parades of the respective units for the week have been approved as under: Wednesday. May 7. —B Company, at. DMgety and Company's wool store, at 7.25 p.m. (no week-end parade): C Company, at Gisborne Shoe planners' Frozen Meat and Mercantile Comoany's wool store, at 7.30 p.m.; Engineers’ Company, at Intermediate School, at 7.30 p.m.: Headquarters Company, medical section at Gisborne Central School, at 7.30 p.m.. signallers and motor-cycle platoons at High School, at 7.30 p.m.; Bowser platoon. Transport Company, at Gisborne Garage at 7.30 p.m.
Sunday, May 11. —A Company, at Williams and Kettle’s wool store, Awapuni road, at 9 a.m.; D Company, at Childers Road Reserve, at 8 a.m. (if wet, at Selvyn Hall); E Company, at corner of Awapuni and Stanley roads, at 9 a.m.; Engineers’ Company, at Childers Road Reserve, at 9 a.m. (if wet. at Bignell and' Holmes’ garage); Headquarters Company, at 'Childers Road Reserve, at 9 a.m.; Transport Company, at Childers Road Reserve, at 9 a.m. Costs of School Courses The prospect of opportunities to attend special schools of instruction at Palmerston North has aroused much interest among officers and non-com-missioned officers of the Gisborne Borough Battalion, and the following further information, circulated to company commanders with routine orders, will intensify interest among those who for economic reasons might not previously have considered the opportunities as applying to them. Free travelling warrants, rations and quarters while in camp, and reasonable out-of-pocket expenses while going to and returning from courses will be provided to those selected. The effect of this notification is that attendance at the courses will mean only a nominal outlay on the part of those selected, apart from any loss of time in employment which might be involved.
