The hopes of two Melbourne families were raised and dashed again b\ official casualty notifications. The first notices said the two young men were reported “missing,” and later, “missing, believed killed." The families were overjoyed to receive a notice on Monday stating their sons had been wounded in action. Tragedy followed quickly with the notice that they had been killed. Army Headquarters to-day expressed deep regret at the mistakes resulting in the issue of wrong information. An inquiry has been ordered. The department believes that the mistake was due to work conducted in the stress of active service conditions and the great difficulty of obtaining reports from units operating over a wide area.
