DEATH AT 86 YEARS

NOTABLE CHURCHMAN (Per Proiia Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. The grand old man of the Anglican Church in Auckland, Archdeacon George Mac Murray died early this morning in his eighty-sixth year. He made his last public appearance on April 10 when he spoke at St. Mary’s Cathedral on the occasion of the election of Bishop Simpkin. He was obviously ill and did not wait to record his vote. Few citizens of Auckland had a finer record of service related to the causes of religion, charity and education and no clergyman in Auckland had been more highly esteemed for his high qualities of head and heart.

He retired from the office of archdeacon of Auckland in December, 1938, having celebrated his ministerial diamond jubilee a few days earlier. He is survived by his wife.

The funeral, to be held to-morrow, will be preceded by a service at St. Mary’s Cathedral at noon to be conducted by Bishop Simkin.
