ENSLAVED BELGIANS OPPRESSED BY ENEMY REMINDER BY GENERAL BIRTHDAY OF KING (Elec. Tel. Copyright—Unltod Proaa Assn.) (Red. April 9, 2.40 p.m.) LONDON, April 8. To mark King Leopold’s birthday to-day, General Van Strijdonck de Burkel, the commander of the Belgian forces in Britain, issued an order of the day to his troops. He referred to King Leopold as “our prisoner king,” and continued: “Our families and friends in occupied Belgium are enslaved and oppressed by the enemy, who is draining and ruining the country. We shall free the Belgians, who will rise again as a great united and prosperous people.”
