IMPORT RESTRICTIONS

AUSTRALIAN CONTROL SAVING IN EXCHANGE (Reed. April 9, 2.40 p.m.) CANBERRA, April 9. Announcing further restrictions on imports from non-sterling countries, the Minister for Trade and Customs, Mr. E. J. Harrison, said that with the previous restrictions they would conserve foreign exchange worth almost £14,000,000 a year on the 1938-39 Import values. Mr. Harrison foreshadowed still further restrictions on imports from non-sterling countries and said the restrictions might soon have to be applied on goods from sterling countries.
