The Japanese took Swabue on March 24. The Chinese re-occupation occurred on Friday when the Japanese. abandoning quantities of arms and supplies, fled lo their warships.

Japanese quarters said that the withdrawal was merely the Japanese practice of evacuating such points mter goods had been seized and other objectives realised, but when Swabue was occupied the Japanese said it was a Chinese base for the transportation of supplies.
