MASTER FAREWELLED TRIBUTE TO MR. JONES Before the business of the monthly meeting of the Poverty Bay branch of the New' Zealand Educational Institute was commenced, Mr. C. J. Cox expressed the sincere regret of members at learning of the death of Mr. W H. Jones, w'ho had been a keen member of Ihe branch, a past president, and a member of the management committee. Mr. Jones, who was in turn headmaster of the Ormond, Manutuke and Awapuni schools, later took charge of the Wcstown School, New Plymouth. He was a valued member of the Poverty Bay branch and the friend of all. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect. A visitor to the meeting, PilotOfiicer Geoffrey Sharp, who was home on a few days’ leave and who was well known as a teacher in this district. was welcomed by the president, who conveyed to him. on behalf of (he members, the best of good wishes for tiie future. After three years as headmaster of the Makaraka School, Mr. R. I. Harrison is leaving shortly to take up a position in Norse wood. Good wishes

for happiness in his new position end for sucees? were extended to him. As secretary of the boys and girls* agri-

culture clubs’ committee. Mr. Harrison has done valuable work, which was appreciated by the teachers concerned. Mr. Harrison suitably replied.

Miss M. Oxcnham. a member of the management committee, was elected to represent the teachers of the Bay on the Poverty Bay Women's .Representative Committee. At the end of this month a conference of branch representatives from all parts of Hawke's Bay is being held in Napier. A number of matters important to teachers is, to be discussed. To represent the Poverty Boy branch Mr. C. J. Cox. who represented the branch at last year's conference, was elected.

It was announced that Mr. P. G. Lewis, M.A.. inspector, will address members at a future meeting.
