OPENING MATCH j EXCELLENT RANGE S. PARKES TOPS SCORE The opening shoot of the Gisborne Miniature Rifle Club was held on Saturday night at the club's range in Gladstone road. The range had been prepared by an energetic committee and was admired by all present. Mr. G. Holmes, vice-president of the club, briefly addressed the large gathering before declaring the range open. Although about half of the competitors were inexperienced in target shooting, the general standard of marksmanship was very high. The honour of being , top-scorer in the club’s initial match fell to S. Parkes. who scored 98. He was closely followed by R. Burson. W. J. Burton and E. Soderston, who all recorded scores of 97. A number of women also took part in the shooting, Mrs. T. Dolman, with a card of 76. returning the best score. Next Saturday night a further practice will be held. Scores:—S. Parkes,’ 98; It. Burson.
