AJAX FOR THE STUD
SOLD FOR 6500 GUINEAS STAYING IN AUSTRALIA (Kler. Tel. Copyright-—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Mar. 8, 9 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Mar. 7. Ajax was sold at.auction for CSOO guineas to-day. Bidding began at 5000 gns. I-lis new owner, Mr. W. .1. Smith, of St. AubinV Stud, announced that the horse will remain in Australia. Mr. Smith owns Beau Pere. Lanarus, who is engaged in the Australian Cup, was sold to Mr. L. Skinner, South Australia, for 130gns. After purchasing Ajax. Mr. Smith said he regarded Ajax as one of the greatest bargains in racing and breeding history in Australia. Four thousand racing men gathered at the ringside arjd witnessed the bidding which began at £SOOO and progressed until Mr. Smith secured the champion, who is going immediately to the stud.
