GREEK GRATITUDE

AID FROM NEW ZEALAND BLANKETS AND CLOTHING The National Patriotic Fund Board has received through the Prime Minister’s Office a copy of a letter sent to the British Legation at Athens by the late General Metaxas expressing his deep thanks for the action of the board just before Christmas in making available to Britain’s Greek allies 5000 pairs of blankets, 2000 pullovers and 10,000 pairs of socks. “I am voicing not only my own personal feelings,” General Metaxas wrote, “but those of the Greek Government and the entire country as well, when I state it is indeed most encouraging to be accorded such generous proof of the friendly sentiments and of the vivid interest of the people of New Zealand in the noble cause which we are defending in common with our great Ally. I would deeply appreciate it if you would be kind enough to convey to the Government of New Zealand and to the New Zealand Patriotic Fund Board an expression of my most grateful thanks.”
