A deputation from the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Alliance waited on the Methodist conference yesterday asking for support for a request to the Government that wet canteens in military camps be abolished and that no more liquor be sent overseas. The Rev. D. Hickson said he was sure that every member of the conference was actively. sympathetic. ‘ The matter would be discussed later in the session. The call to military service was having a serious effect upon the young men’s Bible classes, stated the annual report of the youth department.
