FORTNIGHT’S GAOL
INTOXICATED DRIVER CHASED BY CONSTABLE (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Raymond Sydney Carter, aged 35, an accountant, was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment ,with hard labour in the Petone Police Court yesterday for intoxication while in charge of a car on Sunday afternoon. His license was cancelled for a year. The police prosecutor said that a constable saw Carter and two soldiers drinking beer in a parked car. At the constable’s suggestion, Carter handed over the keys of the car, but later the constable heard the car being started and saw Carter driving away. He gave chase in another car and stopped Carter, who was taken to a doctor and certified as being unfit to drive.
