SENSE OF SMELL LOST
£1425 DAMAGES FOR GIRL Said to have almost lost her sense of smell as a result of a street accident, Miss Bridget Alison Burke, student daughter of Captain Sir Gerald Howe Burke, Bart., late Irish Guards, of Henley-on-Thames, was in London, awarded £1425 damages by Mr. Justice Hilbery in the King’s Bench Division. Miss Burke was travelling with two fellow-students and a tutor in a taxi owned by the defendants. H. and M. Taxicabs, Limited, when the offside door of the cab flew open and she was flung into the roadway. It was stated that she suffered a fractured skull and laceration of the brain. Besides losing almost all her sense of smell, her taste had been affected. Mr. Justice Hilbery said the safety catch of the door was insufficient, owing to wear.
