OBITUARY

MR. ARCHIBALD DAWSON (Special to tbo Herald.) WAIROA, this day. The death occurred in the Wairoa Hospital last week of Mr. Archibald Dawson at the age of 81 years. He was born in South Australia, and came in New Zealand, arriving at Port "Chalmers, with his parents at the age of six. For a time he worked in different parts of Southland, coming to Wairoa in 1886. ■ Mr. Dawson took up business bushfalling in the Ruakituri and Maungatrmiwha districts when those parts were being opened up. Later he took up road contracting in many parts of the district, and was employed at various times by the county and borough councils. He married the only daughter of Mr. J. H. Svriythe, an early settler who took part in the Maori wars. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Eliza Dawson, Wairoa. and a brother, Mr. Thomas Dawson, Auckland, and three sisters, Mrs. H. McKechnie, Riverton, Mrs. J. Galt, Invercargill, and Mrs. J. Hastie, East Gore.
