LABOUR FOR FARMS

USE OF SCHOOL PUPILS FIXATION OF HOLIDAYS (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 2.40 p.m. RUGBY, Feb. 21. To meet the demand off agriculture for additional labour, school holidays are to be fixed at short notice if necessary for periods when the need for seasonal agricultural work is greatest. The Government considers it is essential that the fullest use be made of the assistance of children over 14 years consistent with the maintenance of health and the interests of education. The Board of Education suggests that parties of pupils in the secondary day and boarding- schools be organised under proper supervision to visit local farms on certain days to help with the planting and lifting of potatoes.
