AIR CASUALTIES

new ZEALAND PILOTS FLYER FROM GISBORNE OFFICIAL LIST ISSUED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The following air casualties were announced last night. Flight-Commander Desmond Wallace Ferguson Barker, D.F.C., R.A.F., killed in air operations. His father is Mr. R. Barker, of Gisborne. Pilot-Officer Ronald Owen Lawry, previously reported missing, now presumed killed. His father is Mr. H. B. Lawry, of Waiiti avenue, Lower Hutt. Pilot-Olficcr Murray Charles Petrie, previously reported missing, now presumed killed. His father is Mr. F. Petrie, of Coromandel street, Wellington. Pilot-Officer Kenneth John Alan Johnstone, previously reported missing, now presumed killed. His father is Mr. J. L. S. Johnstone, of Russell road, Manurewa, Auckland. Flying-Officer Ronald William Gair, R.A.F., missing on air operations. He was educated at the Napier Boys’ High School and accepted for a short-service commission in the Royal Air Force in the early part of 1939. His father is Mr. C. J. Gair, of the Government Audit Department, Wellington. Sergeant Douglas Lawrence Burton was reported missing and later reported a prisoner of war and wounded. A message has been received from him stating that he is in hospital and is making excellent progress. His mother is Mrs. J. P. Burton, of Opunake, Taranaki.

Cabled advice has been received by Mr. and Mrs. R. Barker from their daughter, Miss Valerie Barker, who is on war service at Home, that FlightCommander Barker has been buried near Doncaster. Miss Barker states that there was an inspiring service at the village church, a large attendance •Including many of the deceased’s comrades in the Royal Air Force.
