SUPREME COURT
FIRST 1941 SESSIONS LONG CRIMINAL LIST SIX MEN FOR TRIAL The first quarterly sessions of the Supreme Court for 1941 will open in Gisborne next Tuesday, the calendar including a number of criminal cases for trial. The cases for trial are:— Charles Pickering, attempted unlawful carnal knowledge. Frederick Porter, alleged indecent assault. Walter James Thompson, alleged un lawful carnal knowledge (three charges). Pita Ngatiti, alleged indecent assault. Robert Henry Farmer and John Nelson, alleged breaking, entering and theft.
Three prisoners will appear for sentence, these being;— William Richmond, committed for breaking, entering and theft. Henry George David Warrington, committed for breaking, entering and theft.
Thomas Peachey, committed for breaking, entering and theft. One civil case has been set down'for hearing by the judge alone, but it is believed that an application for an adjournment will be made.
Several petitions in divorce are to be heard, in respect of one of which an answer has been filed; there is also a motion for a decree absolute. Miscellaneous matters for trial comprise two cases only, one being filed under the mortgages extension emergency regulations, 1940, and the other being a motion for the extension of time allowed for filing accounts.
