RETURN TO AMERICA
MORMON CHURCH ELDERS AUSTRALIA AND N.Z. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Having been recalled by . the president of their church, 32 Mormon elders, who have been doing missionary work in Australia, passed through Auckland by the Mariposa on their way home to the United States. The Mariposa was later boarded by 34 Mormon missionaries who have received similar instructions to return from New Zealand. Those from Australia were the first of the two groups whose repatriation has been ordered in accordance with the policy of their church to withdraw its missionaries from all parts of the world considered as being or likely to be in the war zone. The second group is waiting for another steamer. A member of to-day’s party said that, as had been the case in New Zealand, no missionaries had been sent to Australia since the outbreak of war. Until the church decided to renew the sending of missionaries to countries from which they were being withdrawn, the work would be maintained by the local ciders and other Australian officers.
