BOWLS IN RUATORIA
CLUB SEASON OPENED (Herald Correspondent.) The Ruatoria Bowling Club was favoured by perfect weather for its opening day and the greens were in fine order. Teams representing Tokomaru Bay and Te Araroa were present. Owing to the illness of the club’s president, Mr. P. G. Burton, the visitors were welcomed by the club captain, Mr. J. Birch. A message was received from Mr. Burton wishing success to the club and extending a welcome to outside visitors. An enjoyable afternoon tea was served by Mesdames J. Birch, E. Williams, H. Kunioka, J. S. Russell, P. G. Burton, T. A. Hunter, E. A. Hunter, A. J. Fry, and C. C. Winter, Misses A. Russell and T. Rawson. Short addresses were made on behalf of the visitors by Mr. F. W. Hunt, of the Te Araroa club, and Mr. Wilkins, Tokomaru Bay. The games resulted:—Penfold, Burrell, Kunioka, Kay (s) 14 v. Garth, Surman, Pepere, A. Hunter (s) 24; D. Smyth, E. Hunter, Wilkins, F. Hunt (s) 13 v. Corkery, Donaldson, J. Russell, Thompson (s) 24; Richardson, Savage, H. F. Smyth (s) 27 v. Lawrence, Beard. Goldsmith (s) 15; St. John, Forrester, C. Winter (s) 37 v. E. Williams, Carter, Beattie (s) 9.
