LARGE TURNOVER
CARNIVAL FINANCES COMMITTEES’ LODGMENTS NEW PLANS COMING UP Committees working in support of the respective candidates in the patriotic queen carnival are turning over substantial sums by way of proceeds from various efforts, to which the public has given excellent support. The bottle and bag drive made by the Cosmopolitan Club on Saturday seems likely to yield over £75, and dances held by different committees have yielded up to £25 each. The Paddy’s market will swell the R.S.A. queen's funds by over £3OO. Figures such as these give a clear indication of the manner in which the public is taking up the campaign Every committee is working hard, and on some evenings a choice of two or three types of entertainment is being offered. To-night, for instance, the sports queen's supporters are conducting flag five-hundred drives at the Gisborne Bowling Club’s pavilion and the Poverty Bay Rowing Club’s hall, and also a badminton tournament at the aerodrome. The R.S.A. candidate will benefit from a social evening promoted by the Gisborne Business and Professional Women’s Club, to be held in Findlay’s rooms. Forthcoming; Features <s To-morrow night's programme includes the first of a two-night picture season at the King’s Theatre, organised on behalf of the Maori queen, and also a variety concert in the Cosmopolitan Club hall, the latter tunc tion having been organised with theaid of outstanding local talent, while the orchestra, under Mr. W. Lighton will take a leading part. Mrs. Morrow, Mrs. Coleman, Messrs. David Lee and Tom Lyle are among the assisting artists. Following nights of the campaign will be filled with activity, and there are also several major functions to be disposed of. Among the more interesting of these efforts will be the lighter side of catering at the Show, in which both the R.S.A. and sports queen candidates' workers will participate; a barbecue at Wainui Beach on behalf of the Diggers’ candidate, and the R.S.A. Derby Day fair, for which 'he campaign executive has alio-'led November 9. The sports quec t will benefit by the profits of the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s spring meet*ing on November 2.
