STATE HOUSING BLOCK
BUS SERVICE EXTENSION ADDITIONAL TRIPS URGED Two additional daily trips by the , municipal buses to the area of the State housing block in Childers road were proposed at t lie Gisborne thorough Council meeting last night hr a report made by Ihe bus manager, Mr. K. G. Ball. ,'r.i his report, Mr. Bull stated that near ly 60 houses were occupied in the Government block. He had received several requests for a service, but ho was of opinion that the area would not support a regular service, while sufficient buses were not available to run any greatly-increased mileage. “To meet the position,” he said, “I would prefer to build up gradually, and suggest that two more daily trips could be provided, in addition to the 1.30 p.m. trip at present run, namely, 3.15 p.m. and 5.15 p.m. from the Gisborne Post Office. All trips will bo run by the regular Tc Hapara bus, and further trips can be added as the need arises.” The Mayor, Mr. ID. W. Coleman, M.P., suggested an amendment to one of the trips proposed by the bus manager, saying that he thought, an earlier trip than that proposed for 5.15 p.m. would be more suitable.
The council agreed to discuss the proposal with the bus manager. During the fortnight ended September 22, the average bus earnings in the borough equalled 14.24 d per mile over 6172 miles, 29,609 passengers being carried, while during the corresponding period last year the earnings averaged 13.04 d per mile over 6214 miles, 29,275 passengers being catered for.
