Last Night’s Forecast General situation: A depression is centred to the west of the North Island and anticyclones are located to the east of New Zealand and over eastern Australia. Forecast: Winds moderate to strong northerly to easterly prevailing. Seas: In New Zealand waters, slight, to moderate south of Farewell Spit and about Foveaux Strait, but elsewhere rather rough to rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong northerly io easterly winds with, a southerly change advancing from the west, seas rough in the northern portion, moderate in the southern. Weather: Fair in Otago and Southland but elsewhere cloudy and overcast and, in places, misty" with fairly widespread drizzle or rain. Temperatures: Moderate in the north, cold in the south. To-Day’s North Island Report Overcast and cloudy conditions were general throughout the North Island this morning, with rain in the south. A gentle to fresh northerly to northeasterly breeze prevailed in most places. The barometer showed a falling tendency. Temperatures at 9 a.m. were: Auckland and Tauranga, 53 degrees; Gisborne, 55; East Cape, 53; Napier, 52; Wellington, 48. Seas were rough at Cape Maria Van Diemen and elsewhere, smooth to moderate, with a slight swell at Wellington. Midday Forecast General "situation: A disturbance centred west of Taranaki lies between anticyclones: to the east and west. Forecast: Moderate to strong northeasterly winds later backing to northwesterly or westerly and decreasing. Weather: Unsettled with occasional drizzle or rain at first-but improving to-morrow; moderate temperatures. Seas: Moderate.
