PERSONAL

Mr. N. K. Mac Diarmid, of New Plymouth, this week celebrated his ninetieth birthday. He has the distinction of being the oldest retired officer of the Bank of Now South Wales in New Zealand.

Dr. A, R'. Johnson, who holds thcrank of lieutenant in the New Zealand Army Medical Corps, has entered camp. He has been posted to the Fourth Reinforcements, Expeditionary Force.

Advice has been received by Mr. and Mrs. J. Heeney that their son, Darcy Heeney, has passed through his course for qualification as an engineroom artificer at an English naval base, and has been posted to a warship. Engineroom Artificer Heeney was prominent in boxing, Rugby football and wrestling, and for three successive years won the New Zealand welterweight amateur title, which he held at the time of his enrolment for service abroad with the Royal Navy .

Mr. Jack Brodie, a former member of the literary staff of the Taranaki Daily News and author of several books under the pen-name of John Guthrie, has accepted a wartime position on the staff of the British Air Ministry and is stationed at Tetbuyr, near Bristol. His brother, Mr. Alexis Brodie, is stationed in Scotland with his wife and family, and his parents. Mr. and Mrs. W. Brodie are also still in England, though they may return to New Plymouth later in the year if shipping berths are available.
