WELFARE OF SOLDIERS GOOD WORK CARRIED ON (Spocinl to tlin Humid.) WAIROA, this clay. “It is essential that the welfare of the men of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, on their return, Be well looked after, and your association already has this in view,” states the annual report of the president of the Wairoa branch of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association. Major J. O. Scott, which is to be presented' at the annual meeting of the branch on Thursday evening. The statement of accounts shows an excess of income over expenditure of £3i lfis lid, compared with a credit of £8 13s Gci the previous year. The (iuancial membership stands at 11T, compared with 111 (he previous year, the imllnancial members numbering 103, compared with 107.
During the latter half of the year, stated the report, war broke out, and the association had been looking after the interests of the men now joining up, in addition to carrying on work on behalf of the “Digger” of the First New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Breakfast had been provided for the Wairoa men going away on earlymorning trains, and this had applied to every draft passing through. Poppy Day resulted in an excellent response.
The report thanks the honorary auditor, Mr. H. L. Harlter, those who assisted on Anzac Day and Poppy Day, the committee, and the secretary.
