NEW WAR BADGES

FEDERAL MINISTRY’S PLAN MELBOURNE, June 7. The War Cabinet has approved the issue of badges, yet to be designed, to six classes of persons, including those engaged in war service, rejected volunteers, mothers and widows, and members of the merchant navy. The Prime Minister,'Mr. R. G. Menzies, said that the badges would differ from those for 1914-18. The new badges will be: Returned from Active Service Badge, common design for three services; Australian Merchant Navy Badge, similar in design to corresponding British badge, but signifying Australia; General Service Badge; Exemption Badge, to be issued to volunteers rejected on medical grounds and volunteers in reserved occupations, common design for three services; Female Relatives Badge, issued to wifo and/or mother or nearest female relative; Mothers and Widows’ Badges, issued when men are killed in action or die of wounds or other causes on active service.
