PATUTAHI NEWS
TEACHER FAREWELLED (Herald Corrcisliondent.) A large and representative gathering met in the Patutahi Hall on Saturday evening to bid farewell to the headmaster of the * Patutahi School, Mr. S. McNaughton, and family. A programme of dances for the children and adults, interspersed by other items, made th ■ evening pass all too quickly. Under the leadership of Mr. J. White, songs by the senior girls were well rendered. Mrs. I. Morrow contributed two solos, accompanied by Mrs. Elliott. The chairman, Mr. T. W. Sewell, spoke of the excellent work done by Mr. McNaughton in the school and made a presentation on behalf of residents of the district, teachers and pupils. The Rev. H. Speight wished Mr. McNaughton and family every good wish. Master Peter Dods, on behalf of the senior boys, made a presentation to Mr. McNaughton, while Mrs. McNaughton was presented with a number of bouquets from the senior girls. Mr. McNaughton thanked all the parents and children for their expressions of goodwill and the gifts. A sumptuous supper was served by committee members and helpers.
The Patutahi Hall presented a gay scene when the annual Anglican Ball was held. Ideal weather conditions and the popularity of this function helped to make the ball a success. The music was provided by Mrs. W. Thomson’s orchestra. Both church and patriotic funds should be considerably augmented through this function.
