HIGH COUNTRY LANDS
' BOARD PROPOSAL DENIAL BY MINISTER An emphatic denial that he had agreed to the establishment of a high country land board, as stated by Mr. T. D. Burnett, M.P., at Timaru during the week-end, was made on Monday in Wellington by the Minister of Lands, the Hon. F. Langstone. In support of his statement the Minister quoted the relevant portions of the letter he bad written to Mr. Burnett and Mr. D. C. Kidd, M.P. for Waitaki, suggesting that runholders should form a central advisory committee.
“My letter was absolutely definite that I could not agree to their proposal to set up a high country land board,” said Mr. Langstone. “I cannot understand how they could place on it the construction which appeared in the report of the interview with Mr. Burnett, unless it is a case of wishful thinking.”
