JEWELS OF LEOPOLD
REMOVED TO PARIS RELEASE DECLINED, (Reed. June 1, 9 a.m.) PARIS, May 31. The Paris Soir says that five days ago two motor cars arrived in France bearing the private jewels and crown of King Leopold of Belgium. They were accompanied by the Belgian royal chamberlain. In the early hours of last Tuesday, before King Leopold’s capitulation was announced the chamberlain tried to get back the jewels and crown, but the authorities declined until he had completed certain formalities. It then was too late to recover the property which was removed to a place of safety.
