N.Z.’S WAR EFFORT

APPEAL FOR ACTION MEETING IN GISBORNE A meeting to support the agitation for the formation of a National Government and the adoption of compulsory universal national service will be held in the Opera House this evening. The movement in Gisborne follows similar action in other parts of New New Zealand where large gatherings have been held with the object of impressing upon the Government that all other interests should be set aside for the duration of the war and the entire national effort should be concentrated on the successful prosecution of the war As elsewhere, then has been a good deal of public comment on the question in Gisborne and it is felt that the meeting this evening will permit of a general expression of opinion It is emphasised that the meeting is non-party and non-political and directed solely towards stimulating the war effort. In the absence of the Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., who has proceeded *o Wellington for the opening of Parliament, the chairman 'of the Cook County Council, Mr. W. G. Sherratt, will preside.
