TRIPLE-CROWN WIN

BOWLER CONGRATULATED MCKENZIE’S DISTINCTION PROBABLE N.Z. RECORD At a complimentary social tendered to Mr. S. McKenzie by the Poverty Bay Bowling Club to mark his great success during the past bowling season opportunity was taken by the president, Mr. E. E. Somervell, to present the club competition trophies to the winning players. Mr. McKenzie had won the triple crown in the champion of champion series- the singles, pairs, and fours. Presenting Mi'. McKenzie with a silver tea service on behalf of the members, Mr. Somervell extended his congratulations to the guest of honour. A vice-president of the GisborneEast Coast Bowling Centre. Mr. ,1. K. Popple, said it was the first time in the history of the competition that one player had won the centre championships after having won the same events in his own club. As far as he had been able to ascertain Mr. McKenzie had established a Dor .inion record. Further congratulatory remarks were made by Mr. R. Short, Tokomaru Bay, .Mr. 11. Gilmer, Gisborne. Mr. W. Jackson, Kahutia, and Mr. C Smith, Poverty Bay. Mr. McKenzie explained that he had not won the three events with his own. bowling and gave Mr. A. Slight credit for the way he had scored a victory in the pairs and spoke highly of the play of Messrs. Quane. Bennett, and Slight in the fours. It was his aim to assist his club where possible and to help bowlin'g generally. The following presentations were made by the president:—Champion Singles Cup: Mr. McKenzie. MncGibbon Shield for club fours: Messis. G Graham, S. Pearson. A. Quane. a id T. Bayliss (s). Mac Gibbon C'ua Pairs Cup: Messrs. 11. K. Swan and E. E. Somervell (s). Rusher Singles Cup: Mr. E. E. Somervell. C. Blackburn Trophy for Handicap Singles: Mr. A. Slight. Intermediate Singles Cup. Mr. ,i. Strawbridge. Junior Singles Cup: Mr. A. Boys. Colt Singles Cup: Mr. A. Morrison. Intermediate Pairs Cup: Messrs. S. Pearson and F. Allen (s). On behalf of the centre Mr. Popple made the following presentations.-
