Farm Labour
Sir, —In a letter in Saturday’s issue of the Herald a correspondent, "Old Crock” writes in a derogatory manner regarding farmers. “Old Crock’s” statement that farmers employ men at starvation wages is just so much twaddle. The rates of pay for agricultural workers in this country compare very favourably with rates paid in England in spite of the high cost of living out here. I have not met any under-nourished farm hands nor do' I consider average accommodation for farm workers beiow standard and my experience of farms in this country extends from Kawakawa in the Far North to Motueka in the South Island and from Opunake in the west to Whakaangiang'i on the East Coast.
