Last Night’s Forecast General Situation: The barometers are commencing to rise rapidly in the far south in the rear of a deep depression which is crossing the Dominion. An intense anti-cyclone extends on to the north Tasman from Australia. Forecast: Winds, strong, squally south-westerly or southerly, probably becoming general during the next 12 to 24 hours and rising to gale force in many places. Seas: In New Zealand waters, rough to high north of Farewell Spit, moderate at first elsewhere, but soon rising from the south. Eastern Tasman Sea: South-westerly gales and high seas. Weather: Stormy at times over the greater part of the country, with heavy passing showers in most districts. Temperatures: Becoming colder again, with snow probable on the ranges in both islands and also down to parts of the lower levels iri Canterbury, Otago and Southland, To-day’s North Island Report Variable winds ranging in force from a gentle breeze to high winds were reported this morning throughout the North Island. Temperatures at P o'clock were:—Gisborne. 56 degrees; Auckland and East Cape. 55; Napier, 54: Tauranga and Opotiki. 52: Wellington. 45. Skies with detached clouds or cloudy conditions were general. Seas were smooth to moderate north of Napier, elsewhere rough! to very rough. Midday Forecast General Situation: Barometers are very low south of the Chatham Islands and very high over south-eastern Australia. Secondary depressions are crossing the Dominion. Forecast: Strong south - westerly winds. Weather: Unsettled with passing showers, heavy at times. Temperatures: Becoming colder. Seas: Becoming rough.
