SICK & WOUNDED APPEAL (Herald Correspondent.) A well-attended meeting of settlers was held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. Begg, Motu, to appoint a committee to organise a campaign to raise funds to assist the appeal of the Red Cross and St. John Ambulance. Much enthusiasm and practical support were forthcoming' and a strong committee was set up. as follows: —Chairman, Mr. H. C. Boys: lion, secretary, Mr. D. Doole; committee, Mesdames G. Begg, J. Quirk, H. C. Boys, and F. W. Peddle, Messrs. G. O. Donovan, E. P. Fisher, N. Nisbett, G. Hutchins, F. Read and J. Donaldson. Plans were made for a thorough canvass of the Molu-Motuhora district and arrangements made for a dance and competitions in the Motu Hall on Saturday, June 1, to supplement the efiort. Members of the Motu School Committee met recently to discuss arrangements for the series of dances and card tournaments, but in view of the appeal of the Red Cross and St. John Ambulance, the first dance, to have been hold on June 1. was postponed. Miss Moana Derecouri. Whakatane, has been visiting Miss J. Rowe, Motubora —Mr. and Mrs. A. Stratford have left for a holiday in the north. —The Misses L. and J. Higgs, Gisborne, were the week-end guests of Mrs. H. L. Twisicton. Motu
