SENIOR A GRADE

LATE RECOVERY Foresters .. 3 goals Caledonian .. 2 Successful attacks in the last five minutes of play on Saturday turned defeat into victory for Foresters against Caledonian, the score being three goals to two. Neither team gave its best performance, but play was hard and fast throughout, with' out any great effort at combined work, Caledonian held the early advantage, and after Slade had sent in a poster he opened the scores during some hesitation on the part of the Foresters backs. Foresters attacked towards the close of the spell, Webster finding the net, but he was ruled outside the circle. Soon afterwards, however, Watchman ran from almost halfway with the ball at the end of his stick to equalise. Half-way through the second spell Caledonian regained the lead when A. Crothers accepted a long pass on the circle edge to score a good goal. The score remained in Caledonians’ favour until five minutes before time, when Webster took advantage of a mistake committed by the defending goalkeeper and netted. Immediately after Wheatley scored the winning goal after accepting a pass from Swan. LEADERS HARD-PRESSED Y.M.C.A. .. 3 goals Muriwai 2 Last year’s champion team, Y.M.C.A., was hard-pressed to defeat Muriwai, last year’s B grade winners, by three goals to two. Applying shock tactics, Y.M.C.A. secured three goals ir, the first 20 minutes, K. Harrison scoring two and B. Harrison one. From then on Muriwai had the better of the argument, varying short passing rushes with long passes which frequently found the Y.M.C.A. defence out of position. Pohatu scored from a handy position just before the interval, and, keeping up the pressure, J. Baker goaled in the second spell for the country team, which pressed hard towards the close, a few good efforts being spoiled because the forwards were 100 keen to get in their shots.
