Tests For Drivers Over 70
The proposal to require an annual driving test and a medical certificate for applicants for driving licenses who are more than 70 years old was discussed by the council of the Automobile Association (Canterbury). A circular from the Transport Department notified the association of the proposal. Mr. F. W. Johnston said that the tests should be left subject to appeal. “It should not be left to any Tom, Dick or Harry to decide,” he said. Mr. G. S. Morrison, saying that he was over 70 himself, expressed the opinion that many drivers over 70 had better judgment than younger ones.
