PRODUCE MARKETS RYEGRASS SEED FIRM UP TO 16/6 A BUSHEL The produce markets in Gisborne remain firm without much alteration, the only quotable changes being in ryegrass seed and eggs. A steady demand has continued for perennial ryegrass seed of good germination, despite the interruption by the Easter holidays, and prices have firmed by 6d per bushel on last week. The demand so far is only for mother seed, lines with high germination and purity being quoted at 16s to 16s 6d a bushel, f.o.b. No quotations are announced for permanent pasture or commercial seed. White clover is also in good demand at prices that show no change from the high levels of 2s to 2s 3d per bushel. So far little Cape barley has been received in Gisborne from-the country districts, and the maize position remains unaltered, with supplies scarce. Potatoes are still quoted at £5 10s per ton to the farmers, the retail rate being 2s 3d per quarter. Eggs, which increased in price during Easter, remain at 2s Gd a dozen retail and 2s 2d to the producers.
