B TEAM'S OPEN CUP HANDICAP TO RUATORIA TWO-DAY FIXTURE Playing before a large attendance of enthusiasts, four teams entered for the Poverty Bay Polo Club’s annual open and amateur tournament played in six matches on Friday and Saturday. The open section of the tournament was won by Poverty Bay B, which defeated Poverty Bay A in the final, and the Handicap Cup went to Ruatoria B a composite formation which included two Poverty Bay players. The standard of play was good, considering the early dates of the fixture, which was advanced owing to the expectation that many of the district horsemen will be on active service Shortly. The Ruatoria players were congratulated upon their performances, a notable feature of which was that nc penalties were given against the Coast players for infringements against the rules. Ruatoria was represented by one full team and also in the composite team, designated as Ruatoria B. Winners in the Open Cup competition were R. Sherratt, W. Sherratt, R. Reynolds, and B. McKenzie, who beat W. Gaddum, G. Gaddum, T. Gaddum rnd J. Jobscn in the final match for the cup. The winners of the Handicap Cup were G. Cjjregory, N. Walker. Thatcher and Sherrill'. Spectators at the tournament supported the patriotic appeal made by the Poverty Bay Women’s Central Representation Committee, on behalf of a tobacco fund for soldiers serving overseas, the committee providing afternoon tea on the first day of the tournament, and lunch and afternoon l ea on the second day. The proceeds of the effort were considered most satisfactory.
