New Zealand’s Response
New Zealanders realised that they were at war. There were 4300 men anxious to be pilots already registered. There were nearly 30.000 men registered to go into camp for the army. New Zealand had a forestry company, a railway company, and a Maori Battalion. The Third Echelon was already complete. These remarks were made by the Minister of Finance, the I-lon. W. Nash, replying to the toast of “Empire Parliaments,” at the fourth convention dinner of the New Zealand Society of Accountants in Wellington.
