DEATHS BY DROWNING

WARNING TO CHILDREN CONCERN OF MINISTER “There is a duty on the part ol oareuts and school teachers to warn young people, particularly those who cannot swim, of the dangers of the water,’’ stated the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry. “Many children enter the water without the fear of the dangers which are always present, and the result in too many cases lately has been crncedy." “Notwithstanding the splendid Stateaided work of the New Zealand Swimming Association in teaching children to swim, and of the surf life-saving clubs which magnificently play thenpart, fatalities occur all too often. It is very disheartening, in view of the success of the learn-to-swim campaign, a campaign which the Government considers should not he slackened in any way. The Government, with the aid of the surf life-saving associations and parents, expects that this year will see even greater results in the learn-to-swim campaign than those achieved last year.”
