KING’S THEATRE “LILAC DOMINO” AND “SWIFT VENGEANCE”: LAST DAY Two really outstanding films, “The Lilac Domino,” the celebrated musical comedy starring Michael Bartlett and Joyce Knight, and “Swift Vengeance,” an exciting gangster story, will conclude at the King’s Theatre tonight. -—"Here I am a Stranger”: Brilliant Film. To-morrow — A daringly significant story of modern life that is out of the beaten path, with Richard Greene on the threshold of his greatest opportunity in his first starring role—such is 20th Century-Fox’s new drama coming tomorrow to the King’s Theatre. “Here I am A Stranger,” with Richard Dix and Brenda Joyce featured in a cast including Roland Young, Gladys George and others. Adapted under the supervision of Darryl F. Zanuck from the novel read by millions, this film is destined to start a new motion picture cycle and is itself one of the most dramatic pictures of the day. It boasts a theme intense in emotional appeal and deals daringly with modern questions in a modern way. With absorbing realism, “Here I am a Stranger” tells the story of a boy who reaches the threshold of manhood to find himself suddenly a stranger in the world he has grown up into. Bewildered by the coniflct between his superficial world of wealth and sham and a new world of things that are real, he is torn and hurt by life, until he meets a girl as new to love as he is himself. This is the role portrayed by Greene, a major opportunity given the young star as Zanuck’s answer to the 250.000 fan letters received by the studio requesting that Greene be stalled. Despite the death of its theme and the intensity of its drama, the story is interpolated with sparkling comedy. Katharine Aldridge, a beautiful photographers’ model who made net film debut in Elsa Maxwell’s ’ Hotel For Women”. Russel Gleason, son-in-law of the screen’s Jones Family. George Zucco, Edward Norris and Henry Kolkcr complete the cast lineup. Roy Del Ruth, top-flight director known for his work on the Sonia Henie pictures, directed “Here I f» m a Stranger.” An excellent supporting programme includes “Liners of the Skyway,” “Barnyard Baseball” cartoon, “Daily Diet of Danger,” a camera thrill, the latest overseas news and also the popular Fox Aussie News.” Advance bookings are reported to be heavy.
