BANNED FROM HOTEL
BRITISH BOXER R.A.F. REGULATION LONDON, Dec. 20. Len Harvey, the boxer, who gave u]% an income of several thousands ol pounds to serve as an R.A.F. physical instructor at 35s a week, cannot lunch at either of the two big hotels in Hastings, the Queen’s or the Royal Victoria. That is a privilege reserved for flying officers. Harvey Is .only an N.C.O. The other day his wife and some friends went from London to see him, He took them along to one of the big hotels to give them lunch. “They told him he was out ol bounds,” said Mrs. Harvey lo a reporter. “Len didn’t mind, but some of our friends were very angry indeed ” Said Lieutenant C. N. G. Orton, R.N.V.R., manager of the Queen’s: “It is nothing to do with us. I’d like to see the sergeants here. They are a grand lot of boys, but R.A.F regulations apparently forbid it. Dance Permit “We can serve a private in the infantry or the artillery. We can't even refuse a non-cbmmissioned-olfi-cer in the R.A.F., but we have to warn him he is acting against orders. “Tlie other day I found a sailor had been refused a drink by mistake Luckily I was able to find him and apologise.” There is, however, a certain R.A.F. sergeant who goes to one of the banned hotels. He takes a private room and gives a party for his fellow sergeants. No one can stop lum. And even Instructor Harvey was there last week. He was M C at a squadron party. Regulations were relaxed to enable 400 sergeants and aircraftmen to dance and drink until I a.in.
