OREGON REACHES PORT TROUBLE WITH BOILERS LEFT BY U-BOAT (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Feb. 12, 2.10 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 11. The British steamer Oregon, which has reached port, reports that boiler trouble was experienced off Cape Finisterre. She sent out an SOS and drifted for three days. A U-boat approached, but did not fire. Piesurnably it was short of ammunition. The U-boat left the Oregon to her fate. The next day a tug made contact, but the hawser snapped. The second officer and two seamen were killed and another was seriously injured. The Oregbn previously had been reported torpedoed.
