AT COUPLE'S COTTAGE
BULLETS PIERCE WALL
DROVER BEFORE COURT
The sequel to a sensational happening at Collier’s Junction, near Taihape, on December 27, when two shots were fired at a cottage occupied by Mr. William George Hagen, a roadman employed on the Rangitjkei County Council, and his wife, Ethel Chariotfe Cordes Hagen, was heard in the Taihape court, when Roy Gane Walley, aged 37, a drover and ‘lnsurance agent, married; of Ruru road, Taihape, was charged that with intent to intimidate or annoy William George Hagen and his wife, he did by night, discharge a .303 rifle, to alarm or attempt to alarm Hagen and his wife in their dwelling-house at Collier's Junction.
Walley was also charged with causing to be received by Roy Alexander I-lagen, of Miramar, Wellington, a letter containing threats to do grcvious bodily harm to William George Ilagen, father of Roy Hagen. Detective-Sergeant 1. K. Robertson appeared for the police, and asked for a remand until January 26 at Taihapc. Accused was allowed bail on his own recognisance of £250, and one surety of £250, the condition being that he stay aw%y from the vicinity of Mr. Hagen’s residence. Police investigations are proceeding under the direction of DetectiveSergeant Robertson and DetectiveSergeant G. G. Kelly, an arms expert, of Wellington. iMr. Hagen was in bed at the time the shots were fired. Both bullets passed through the bedroom wall, one being embedod in the stud, while, the other went out the roof.
