FAMILY MIGRATION
TREK TO BUSH FARM NORTHLAND PROCESSION (Per Press Association.) WHANGAREI, this day. A family migration from the King Country to an unseen block of virgin country near Hangaroa forms a striking procession on a Northland road. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Smith and their seven children, the eldest being 10 years, arrived at Whangarci yesterday. The woman and the youngest children ride in an ancient buggy drawn by two horses and containing all their worldly possessions, while the father and the three eldest walk, driving two cows, three calves and two goats. The purchase price of the farm took all the Smith’s money. Avoiding motor camps, they pilch tent and boil the billy by the wayside. Leaving Kawhia on December 5, the modern pioneers passed through Whangarei to-day.
