TOKOMARU FAREWELL

DISTRICT NURSE LEAVING FOR WELLINGTON CHEQUE PRESENTED * (Herald Correspondent.) A large number of people gathered at the carved meeting house, Tokomaru Bay, on Friday evening to bid farewell to Miss E. M. Armstrong, who has been district nurse for the past two years and is leaving next week for Wellington. On arrival the guest of honour and ,her sister, Miss M. Armstrong, were greeted with a Maori song of welcome, and presented with charming bouquets by Mrs. 0. >Piper. Vocal items were given by Mesdames Britton, L. Mills, and J. Todd, and Miss E. Hale. Action songs under the leadership of Miss T. Ngawai also were enjoyed. Wi Hapi’s orchestra supplied the music for dancing, and Mr. €. McCracken was the M.C. The evening was organised by the committee of the Tokomaru Bay branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, which left nothing undone to make it a success. After the serving of supper, the Rev. Mr. Puha, on behalf of the Maori people of the Bay, wished Miss Armstrong every happiness for the future and presented her with a cheque. Other speakers were Mrs. Britton, for the Native School, Mr. R. V. Gullv. the European people, and Mr. J. Todd, for the Waiapu Hospital Board. Miss Armstrong suitably responded.
