WAR ‘BALANCE SHEET’
MINISTER’S REVIEW EARLY DECISIVE EVENTS (British Official Wirol«ss.> Reed. 9 a.m. RUGBY, Jan. 10. The Minister of National Service. Mr. Ernest Brown, speaking at Edinburgh, expressed the view that events which will decide the war would take place this year. However, they might not be worked out to victorious results in 1940.
In reviewing the “balance sheet” of the war, Mr. Brown said that while the German submarine work had
been made difficult, the Germany navy seemed reluctant to leave harbour. One great difference between 1914 and 1940 was that tffe present Germany was being run by ruthless men and the nation was being driven to such desperation by tyrants who knew no limit except their own desperate aims.
