HOSPITALITY EN ROUTE
WAIROA REFRESHMENTS Members of the Second Echelon group who left Gisborne early this morning were well catered for in the matter of wayside refreshments. Members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union served coffee and sandwiches for the men at the Abercorn Hall prior to their departure, and in Wairoa preparations were made by a committee of ladies, acting on behalf of the Wairoa Returned Soldiers’ Association and the district patriotic committee, to give the men a light meal prior to their entrainment for Napier. The Wairoa people have shown a keen interest in the welfare of troops passing through their areas, and have repeatedly entertained the members of Gisbone drafts proceeding to camp. A permanent organisation of patriotic workers is being sponsored by the local bodies, in co-operation with the patriotic committee and the ex-ser-vicemen’s association.
