TWO-MILE SORTIE THE WESTERN FRONT FRENCH PENETRATION GERMANS AMBUSHED AIR SURVEY TRIPS (Klee. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Jan. 5, 11.40 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 4. A Paris message quotes the official French radio which states that French patrols penetrated for nearly two miles into German territory and brought back most valuable information. A mobile detachment ambushed the enemy and took several prisoners. French planes reconnoitred Germany to a depth of 250 miles. Germans flew over eastern and northeastern France and violated Belgian territory when homeward bound.
The French oflieial communique issued this morning stated there was nothing to report during the night.
The official communique issued last evening stated: “During the day patrol and reconnaissance parties successfully fulfilled their missions at various points of the front. Towards midday two enemy planes were brought down by our fighters.”
